The parking in West Perth has changed. The City of Perth has determined to take payments via the ‘award winning’ EasyPark application for smartphones. The App is downloaded from the App Store or Google Play onto a smartphone. Registering collects the usual intimate details including the registration numbers of the cars you drive. A time is selected for the parking but, with the App, this can be extended or stopped short - resulting in a potential saving over the previous systems of hourly slots. Dotted around the streets are meters dedicated to payment by card. Again, the car’s registration number needs to be entered on those meters and I believe these are again timed by the hour. Parking fees have increased to around $5.00 per hour.
None of the machines will accept cash. We need to find a different use for the little tray in the dashboard where coins could be stored to pay for parking in a previous era!
